Weed Effects: Lung Cancer and Tar

Smoke from cannabis contains carcinogenic tar that is identical to the tar present in tobacco smoke. But the concentration is much higher in cannabis smoke. In the smoking of plant products harmful substances are released in your lungs, including tar. Smoking pure marijuana leaves 4 to 5 times more tar in the lungs than a normal cigarette.

The added amount of tar release is caused by:
  • The lack of a filter, such as normal cigarettes do have. That causes 2 to 3 times more tar.
  • The smoking techniques. Blowers inhale large volumes of smoke and maintain it in their lungs over a longer time. Nonetheless: to get THC in the bloodstream, this technology is not necessary. THC is immediate absorbed in the beginning of the lungs.
